Image Engineer is here again to stay..
Image Engineer is a shareware image processing application for
Amiga. It can be used for tasks varying from converting images
between different file formats, rendering 24 bit images down to
standard Amiga screen modes, enhancing baddly scanned/digitized
images, correcting image colour balance, batch conversing images,
manipulating images using effect modules. What you can use it for
is limited by what you can think of.

Usual System Requirements
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
* 68020 or higher processor.
* OS v2.04+
* 2Mb of RAM bare minimum, at least 6Mb recommended, infinity is best.
* Superview Library V15 or higher to be installed. (The latest
version can be found inside the archives of SViewIV available on
aminet: /gfx/show/SvIV-*.lha). Download archives numbered
1-2,3a,3b,4-8. Other archives are optional.
Listen me carefully now; Image Engineer needs libraries, not the
SviewIV itself. Sublibraries should be in Libs:svobjects/. There IS
an installer, which installs ONLY these libraries to the right
place. Use it. There is no need to register SViewIV to be
allowed to make use of the library.
* 640x400 screenmode or higher.
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Extract the ImEngV3.41p1.lha archive and run the installer script
to install the first part. Extract the ImEngV3.41p2.lha archive
and run its installer script to install the second part.
Distributability
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The unregistered version of Image Engineer v3.41 is freely
distributable. It is not public domain, as copyrights remain with
the author. This means that you may copy and distribute Image
Engineer, if following conditions are met:
* Original archives are unmodified.
* No profit is made beyond minimal copy and posting fees.
* Image Engineer may not be commercially distributed without the
author's written permission.
* Including Image Engineer on magazine's coverdisk is allowed, if
author is informed about it.
Unusual details
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Did I mentioned that usage of Image Engineer is limited by what you
can think of? Have you heard something similar before? No wonder.
Every and I mean every other graphic modification program on Amiga
mention Arexx-support with 1 line like; "Connect ***** with all your
favourite programs!". Wow. Image Engineer is still different, even
when it's also guilty for doing that. Also mentioned is "Multiple
image editing". Those 2 features and realtime preview featured and
easy to use Composite-module separate Image Engineer from those
others. Let me tell you an example;
In Image Engineer, when effect is applied, new window will appear
showing the result. You could apply many different effects (like
Convolve-matrix, Contrast, Twirl) to one image and then composite this
resulting image with a third picture. Now you can delete the images with
useless effects and maybe make some new ones and try to Composite
them, too. Don't underestimate the new - window - after - an - effect
- feature. It's help a lot, when you can visually see the
work-in-progress pictures. Remember the times with good old Deluxe
Paint (or alternative)? You had all the testing materials around the
screen, which you then grabbed as brush, when needed.
After testing Image Engineer you will found out that everything is
done very quickly because of optimized assembler coding.
Composite-module is always near, when you need it (and you do need
it). And you will get the feeling, that you control the program, not
program controlling you. True Amiga spirit here.
When you've used to Image Engineer -world and maybe would like
automize things you do often, it's time to take a look at Arexx-port.
Don't be afraid. It's not like you now must have to take a lesson of 2
months, just to learn to code. Take a look at this sample of
Arexx-code:
BRIGHTNESS Forest_Scenery.iff 100
brightforest=result
ROTATE brighforest 90
rotforest=result
CLOSE brightforest
or do a reguester of your own asking values for BRIGHTNESS and ROTATE:
'FORM "My own requester" "Ok|Cancel"',
'INTEGER,"Brightness",-255,255,'100',SLIDER',
'INTEGER,"Rotate",1,360,'90',SLIDER'
Simple or what?
But, maybe it's not a good idea to start Image Engineer testdrive by
doing some Arexx-coding. Take a look at Visual Engineering -scripts
made for Image Engineer. For example with Visual Border it's really
easy to add different kind of frames for pictures. Just load a picture
and select an effect like Round Corner and wow(!), your picture now
have round corners. With Shadow you can add dropshadows, even to
shapes with allready antialiased edges. Merge joins 2 pictures
together using aligns familiar from HTML-code (above, middle, left,
rightside..). Visual Puzzle makes a picture look like a puzzle with
randon pieces. There's so many (over 30) scripts. Better take a look
at Visual Engineer website. Lots of graphical examples, downloads and
tutorials are waiting for you.
Image Engineer's new website have lots of graphical material.
Screenshots, tutorials and users' artwork.
Registering
~~~~~~~~~~~
Registeration is only 35$ and so it is the most powerful and
cheapest graphics manipulation software available for Amiga
platform. Registered users will get a personal key file, which
will unlock the limit on image size. Refer to the AmigaGuide
documention or website of Image Engineer for possible
registeration methods.
Final words:
"I've studied Image Engineer so much, that I know what it needs and
deserves. We are working hard, so we could release a new version as
soon as possible. Hell, I wish I could have done this a long time
ago. Information about cost of upgrades and details of enchangements
will be announced later."
